| First, the z32 trans is a stronger transmission. The 350z is a close-ratio 6 speed, meaning - it has more gears, but the gears are shorter for quicker acceleration, and less top end. To the people thinking they can throw in a 6spd and have an extra gear or higher top speed, forget it. The 5 speed used in the Z32 has a longer ratio final gear at .752, compared to the 350z's .794. The 350z still averages a decent top speed with the help of a longer final drive (3.53). If someone wanted to take on a "top speed" project, change the bellhousing and mate a 5spd from the 88-89 Z31 turbo (same internals) to the Z32, with an early model Q45 differential in an n/a subframe with TT hubs and axles :) This would yield a .711 5th gear and a 3.45 final drive. Should be plenty good for some low RPM highway speeds and high MPH top speed!
